The Humane Society of Vilas County- Welcomes you!!!!

Did you know :

The Humane Society of Vilas County includes a Spay or Neuter with every Dog, Puppy, Cat, and Kitten!

The HSVC also includes current vaccinations on every adopted dog, cat, puppy, and kitten including rabies vaccine!

That the animals are usually fixed by the time they get adopted or as soon as they can be if their age allows by a wonderful licenced veterinarian, we also have many vets in the area if you perfer to use yours that work with us.

We try to place animals in homes that suit the entire family and don't PUSH any animal on anyone that it may not suit.

We are non-for-profit and supported by generous people, like you, with donations and our general fees for services.

We have a membership program and volunteer program that can be inquired about at the shelter.

We work with rescue groups and other shelters to try to give every animal equal chance at a forever home.

We only have a staff of 3 people that work very hard with a volunteer board of directors to oversee our operations, running costs, and fundraising programs.

Surrendering Animals:

If you have a stray you need to contact your local appointed animal control. There is a current list of who they are in the Vilas County Official Directory. The Humane Society of Vilas County does not provide animal control services such as stray pick ups. We do however house the strays brought in to us by local authorities to provide them with a chance at a better life; or even better reconnect them with their owner.

If you need to surrender your pet there is a $35 surrender fee. We take in owner surrenders only when we have the space to do so because strays take priority. Strays must be brought in by an animal control officer for your township.

The Humane Society of Vilas County should be used only as a last resort for your pet. We are happy to help in any way rehome your pet but we do ask you first try on your own. We have a list of ways to help you out below:

Put up fliers! Try you local grocery stores, gas stations, here, and laundry mats. Charge a small adoption fee, if your pet is not fixed ask for that fee as a prepaid spay or neuter that way you are not receiving a fee but a nice guarentee that the new owner has your pet in their best interests.

Post an ad at no cost through websites like "craigslist" or "petfinder.com (classifieds section)", and local.com.

Pay for an ad in the newspaper.

If you have any questions call us, leave a message, we will get back with you. Thank You!
