The Vilas County Humane Society
Unfortunitly we are full to capacity again with wonderful dogs for adoption. We are asking for those considering sharing their life with a dog to consider one of our homeless happy tails! In addition, foster homes are still welcome if you would like to temporarily help a dog on it's journey to a forever home.
We are excited to present our in-shelter animals and hope that one of our furry friends can soon become part of your family!
Our new hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 10 till 3pm
Saturdays 10 till 1pm
Sundays and Wednesdays: Closed
Check out our upcoming events section!
Please visit our adoption corner to view the available dogs and cats awaiting a new home! We are also on petfinder.com, that is also good place to find additional photos of our adoptable animals.
ALSO, because we are a not for profit organization that exists due to the charitable donations of our supporters, we have a wish list posted under “Help Vilas Humane”.
We accept donations through Trig’s TSLC program, number 25S, and the “We Care” program through Pick n’ Save, number 897250. Stop by the courtesy counter of your local Pick n’ Save and let them know that you’d like to change your charity to “Vilas County Animal Shelter”! There is also a box to collect donations located in the lobby at Pick n’ Save in Eagle River.
You can contact our Shelter Manager Mellissa McDonald at (715) 479-9777.
KIDS CAN HELP TOO!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to all the classes, girl scout troops, special listeners, helpers, energetic volunteers that have visited and fundraised for our cuddly critters! We all very much appreciate your efforts and will remember your kindness.
Thank You Allie!!!! Your birthday party is one for the history books! This fine young lady had a birthday party and requested for no gifts but for donations for the homeless animals of Vilas County Humane Society!

Thank You for making our Lanny's Fireside Fundraiser the best!!!!!
The members of our board, the staff, and all our beautiful homeless animals would love to Thank All Our Supporters that came out to support the Humane Society of Vilas County at the Lanny's Fireside Wine and Cheese tasting fundraiser! The response was overwhelming and it was the highest amount raised yet!
We would like to thank Lanny, Max, Pam Regan, and all the staff at Lanny's Fireside for all the hard work, great food, beautiful wine selections, and for being generous hosts.
We would also like to thank all the generous sponsors of raffle items, silent auction gifts, and door prizes. The amount of items was overwhelming thanks to all your generosity. Thank you to the volunteers of the animal shelter for your continued support and for helping with the set up, hosting, wine pouring, announcers, and food serving at this event.
This event has raised to this date $4800!!! That is a new record, the generosity of everyone is what makes our shelter one of the best in the northwoods and continued support keeps our doors open to providing service for Vilas County's furry residents, being that we are a non-for-profit (501c3), ran strictly on donations.

Foster Care Volunteers Needed
We are in need for foster or permenant homes for a couple of dogs that have been here a long time or that need special attention and socializing. It is harder on some dogs to be in a shelter than others. All our homeless dogs are doing fine despite their time but their adoptability could be greatly improved if someone would foster them in a real home.
With a record 1.2 million homes in foreclosure nationwide, displaced dogs and cats need a place to stay too. Even Vilas County may have been impacted as we have seen some pets surrendered due to their owners loss of their current home.
Fostering is easy! All one needs is extra space and time in their home. Fostering an animal means you are providing food, water, and a stable enviornment so an animal that would otherwise sit in a shelter kennel can enjoy a temporary home until it reaches it 's permenant forever home. The animal shelter does provide all medical expense for the animal while in the foster program until it is adopted. For more information please call us!!! We have two in foster now which helps give us room to keep taking in animals as long as space stays available within the facility.
Please call the Shelter at (715) 479-9777 to see how you can help.
Additional Information
We reserve the right to refuse membership to people who do not support our mission statement, who have a history of animal abuse or neglect, and who do not support our goal of being the sole entity charged with running the animal shelter in Vilas County.
The Humane Society of Vilas County is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. We are not affiliated with PETA, the Humane Society of the United States, or any other humane organization. We do not oppose hunting or trapping, or the humane harvest of game birds, animals, or fish by lawful means.
We are always accepting donations, for a current list of items check out our Fundraising section for the list. We accept gift cards to Pamida, Pick N Save, Trigs, and especially Ace Hardware! We are also in need of RAWHIDE chips and bones to keep our doggies occupied in their kennels along with Cheese Whiz for their KONG toys. We use these items to keep their minds concentrated on something positive to work at rather than being bored and destructive. We could also use drain opener/maintence (never ending fight at any shelter!), septic safe.
THANK YOU AGAIN TO EVERYONE THAT HAS DONATED ANY ITEM THAT HELPS IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CARE AND LIFE TO THE LESS UNFORTUNATE, WE APPRECIATE ALL OF IT!!!
