Humane Society of Vilas County Receives Landscaping at the Shelter!!!!
The VCAS received a surprise gift this summer-NEW LANDSCAPING!!! The shelter was built 5 yrs ago and had never been landscaped. That has all changed due to the generous donation made by Todd and Jacqui Monge, owners of Custom Landscaping of Eagle River.
According to the shelter director Melissa McDonald, the landscaping was sorely needed to make the entrance more inviting, to correct drainage problems, and to prevent animals from getting loose during dog walking hours and from running onto the highway. The employees at Custom Landscaping, recognizing that the shelter is a non-profit organization that operates entirely on donations and volunteers, decided they wanted to help. After consulting with the VCHS a plan was created by landscape designer Dennis Ragan and volunteers stepped forward.
Klessig Tree Service got the project rolling by removing a dead towering pine and by grinding away several stumps. Next, the landscape materials were delivered by driver Dave Rehme. Chad Boettcher used a skid steer to re-grade the area and to improve drainage. Planting beds were created in front of the building, new top soil and seed was laid for a new lawn, flagstone pavers installed at the front, side, and rear access doors by Brad Soder. Cyclone fence and gates were installed by Vinnie Trollan, Dave Rehme, and Tim Klaver to make a safer environment for the dogs. Karl Piechotta and Jim Kaminski helped create the new lawn and planting beds for perennial flowers. A new maple tree was planted also ti beautify the front. Chris Wright and Nancy Klaver completed the plan by planting shrubs and perennials donated by Pam Ragan, Chris Wright, Jennifer Primich, and other volunteers that were happy to donate splits from their own gardens.
The overwhelming response from the visitors, staff, and adopters has been WOW what a wonderful and beautiful improvement!
